Public phone boxes, the proper red ones - the lists of area dialling codes on the inside window, only you could never use them, because the done thing was to stub cigarettes out all over the codes making them unreadable...

There is that.
My stubbed out dialling codes were spotted on a tv programme and it bought back a whole host of memories, (some good, some bad) of illegible dialling codes.

Which was an early form of cable which did BBC1, BBC2 and ITV plus one or two of the regional ITV stations in the counties neighbouring where you lived. Radio stations with good clear reception too.
It was a bit overrated - it was the reception which was better than beating the shit out of an indoor aerial which never worked
